I was slapped me in the face by staff!
My boyfriend and I arrived and they only had a $20 USD room. It was on the 5th floor up a narrow staircase. No problem. They assured me TWICE that the wireless internet would work on the 5th floor. After lugging our bags up the extremely narrow stairs we found out the INTERNET DIDN'T WORK. Also, the TV remote was broke and the phone didn't even have a cord, it was just for show.
The next day we found out other guests were paying $15 for better room. We also woke up and had NO WATER to take a shower. They quickly fixed this, then 3 hours later the water was again broken. We complained and asked why we were paying more for a room that was bad. The woman receptionist agreed and said we could pay $10 a night for the 2 nights we already stayed. She said we could change rooms for the night to a $15 room or stay in ours for $10.

Another guy did not like this and basically said no to what the woman had previously offered. He said we had to pay in full and then said or GET OUT. We were furious. We thought this was very unfair and hopped on the free internet to look for some sort of tourist police who could help us. They then TURNED THE POWER OFF on us!!!
We went upstairs and packed our bags and they were pounding on the door, for no reason. We went down and I started taking pictures of the place to let other travelers know not to stay there, when the man got angry and said do not take a picture of me. I said fine, that's fair so I went outside to take a photo of the sign and he stormed out, pushed my boyfriend out of the way and slapped me on the face!!!!! My sunglasses broke and he ripped my boyfriends shirt.

The police were called and the manager came. After that ordeal we told the police that we are not paying any money to them and that we expect compensation for our damaged goods. (My sunglasses and my bf's shirt) The police told us that unless we and the manager came to an agreement we would have to take it to court. In the end the manager agreed to pay us and we left.

We later headed to Sapa and found a couple who were staying at that hotel. They were being charged about $30 more per person ($60 in total) for their trip which was the same as ours!!! They also were ripped off on their Halong Bay trip, in which they cancelled with the hotel and took a 10% fee, because in the end it was cheaper for them to rebook with a legit company than these monkeys.

There's hundreds of hotels in Hanoi, save yourself a headache and find another hotel.
